The Southern Literature and Popular Culture area of the Midwest Popular Culture Association seeks panel and paper proposals for the annual Midwest Popular Culture Association/American Culture Association conference, this year to be held Oct. 3-5 at the JW Marriot Indianapolis in Indianapolis, IN.
The area seeks papers whose topics address any aspect of Southern literature or popular culture. This includes works by southerners OR about the south. Topics might address, but are not in any way limited to:
Literature (either Southern in setting, by author, or theme)
Television (Justified, Southern reality television shows including Duck Dynasty, Honey Boo Boo, etc)
Film and Theatre
Religion and Pop Culture
Humor
Music and Visual Art
Submissions should be made electronically via our online submission system (http://submissions.mpcaaca.org/). Deadline for receipt of proposals is April 30, 2014.
Graduate students are invited to apply for competitively awarded travel grants from MPCA/MACA. Undergraduate students should enter our undergraduate paper competition.
