The Protest Issues and Actions section of the Popular Culture Assocation (PCA) seeks proposals for its annual paper sessions at the 2016 Conference to be held in Seattle, Wa from March 22-25, 2016. Any disciplinary approach may be used to examine dissent, past or present, in a local, national, or international setting.
Papers may focus on works by specific writers or artists; the history of a specific movement, protest, or action, as well as the rhetoric, politics, sociology, or symbolism of specific protests. Past topics have included protests by environmental, antiwar, gun rights, human, animal and gay rights groups as well as how marches, imagery, music, theater, literature and art have played a role in protest.
To submit a paper, visit the Conference website at www.pcaaca.org. On the main page, go to the Subject Area, scroll down to the Quick Links , click on “P,” then then click on Protest Issues and Actions. Follow the directions on that page for submitting a paper. The deadline for submitting papers is October 1, 2015.
