Humanities First is a non-profit serving scholars in the humanities by providing quality, affordable editing services. Our mission is to remove the roadblocks that keep stellar scholars from publishing their work. We are in need of an editor who can proofread and line edit academic texts.
Editors are assigned documents on a case-by-case basis. We are a small organization with a big footprint and seek someone who takes pride in their work and enjoys helping their colleagues excel. This position is perfect for graduate students who are out of coursework and writing their dissertation and/or are on the job market, as well as PhDs hoping to supplement their existing income.
If you meet the criteria below, please send a CV (1-3 pages max.) or resume (2 pages max.), a writing sample, and three professional references. If possible, send an example of previous editing work (before and after is helpful). You may also send up to 3 recent course evaluations.
Our ideal editor would meet most or all of the following criteria:
- BA, MA, or PhD in Journalism, English (Rhetoric), or related field
- ABD or PhD in a humanities-centered field
- Strong attention to detail
- Fluency in Chicago and MLA style
- Working knowledge of APA style
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to work independently with little supervision
- Strong consultative and people skills
- Honest, hard-working, and above all, cheerful
