The Canadian Nautical Research Society is pleased to announce the re-introduction of the Jacques Cartier MA Award. The CNRS is now accepting submissions for the 2019 award.
The CNRS has a mandate to encourage research into maritime history relating to Canada. To encourage graduate studies at the Master’s level, the Society will award a prize annually for the best Master’s thesis produced in the previous year, this year at its annual meeting in Thunder Bay, 22-24 August. Candidates must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents attending a Canadian university or institution of higher learning or a similar foreign institution, writing on a Canadian maritime topic. Areas of research may include any branch of historical learning related to human uses of the seas, oceans, rivers or lakes. Theses (including master’s research projects/ MRPs, cognate papers, or extended research papers) that demonstrate inter-disciplinary approaches beyond history and the arts are encouraged.

Applications for the 2019 Cartier Prize (for MA programs completed in 2018) are due by 31 May 2019. The value of the 2019 Cartier Prize is $250.
